What would the Internet be like without security, without encryption?

A world without cybersecurity is like a "digital disaster".
Does the absence of cybersecurity mean a safer world? The elite security researcher at Kaspersky thinks that we should rethink by presenting realities about the technology world without cybersecurity.

Vitaly Kamluk, Head of Global Research and Analysis Group (GReAT) Asia-Pacific (APAC) Kaspersky, delved into the alternative scenarios of a world without companies, network security solutions and services. He revealed the possibility of a "Digital Dystopia" when the online defense industry is removed from the equation.

“Global cyber security spending is projected to soar to $460 billion in the coming years, nearly double the cumulative spending in 2021 and close to the current total GDP of Thailand. The current threat landscape can take this forecast a few levels up if we consider the actual worldwide situation. So it's not uncommon to question why we invest so much in cybersecurity and whether it's worth saving all the money we spend on cybersecurity elsewhere," Kamluk said.

The Internet world's lack of network security can cause "digital disaster".

Although possible, Mr. Kamluk listed reasons why no one would choose to live in a world without cybersecurity including: No encryption, no privacy, no secrecy; No access control; and No integrity validation

He emphasized: "Shutting down" the cybersecurity industry will open a wide door for criminals to exploit users' data - from financial information, health issues, to travel plans, expenses. pepper,...

At the same time, fraud in sales transactions is also possible as everyone can use someone else's identity to make purchases and even transfer money. Without access control, surveys and e-voting can be rigged. No one has a personal account online and nothing is private anymore.

The lack of integrity also makes news and information unreliable, and fake news and misinformation are therefore expected to increase. Basically, anything can be faked in a world without cybersecurity.

“I see a world without cybersecurity as a 'digital disaster' where no one can fully exploit the opportunities of the latest technologies that we possess. Without the companies and solutions working behind the scenes to protect our data, our identities, the news we read, and the apps and devices we use, we'll be on our own. overcome the risks and I am sure that no one would choose to live in such a chaotic world," Kamluk emphasized.

"Today, cybersecurity is often an invisible part of our lives, something we take for granted, but as a civilization, we owe it to the roles and contributions it delivers, he added.

When it comes to risks, Mr. Kamluk also revealed that from July 2021 to August 2022 alone, Kaspersky detected and prevented more than 7.2 billion attacks by malicious objects. including malware and malicious web content worldwide.

From August 2021 to July 2022, APAC was a vulnerable region as the percentage of malicious objects detected by Kaspersky solutions in the region was 35%, compared to globally. India, Japan, Vietnam, China and Indonesia are the top five countries in terms of infection efforts.

As a global cybersecurity company and a leading contributor to detecting and preventing sophisticated attacks around the world, Kaspersky's senior managers have also imagined a world no Kaspersky.

Mr. Chris Connell - APAC Regional Managing Director and Vice President of Global Sales Networks at Kaspersky, goes back to the early days of the company in 1997 when no one could have known that the world was going to be fighting a part of the world. malware per hour without Kaspersky's Heuristic analysis technology.

In 2015, the world without Kaspersky would not know of an unprecedented cyber heist, with $1 billion stolen over the span of two years from financial institutions worldwide by the Carbanak cybercriminal group. . Together with INTERPOL, Europol and authorities from different countries, Kaspersky discovered the criminal conspiracy behind the biggest theft of the century.

Free decryption tools would also not be popular without the No More Ransom initiative co-founded by Kaspersky, which has since grown from 4 to 188 partners, contributing 136 decryption tools. and help more than 1.5 million people worldwide decrypt their devices.
